Grappling Hooks

Grappling hooks have several uses:

  1. Throwing upwards to fix a line for ascending. Security is dubious at best. NEVER TRUST YOUR LIFE TO A GRAPPLING HOOK!
  2. Throwing laterally while on rappel to fix a line for pulling oneself over to a desired location. This is probably the best use for cavers and climbers.
  3. Pulling your pirate ship alongside a merchant vessel. In the old days, getting caught would lead to your body swinging in the breeze. Nowadays it will get you free room, board, and medical care.
  4. Recovering drowning victims from the bottom. Best done out of sight of the squeamish folks who changed the rules for #3.
  5. Hooking booby trap trip wires for, say, explosive ordinance removal.

It is said that no one is a real caver unless they have ascended a rope that was rigged by throwing a grappling hook, and that no intelligent caver has ever done this. I plead the fifth on this one.

Warning:
Don't trust your life to a grappling hook.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
