Technical Details

Garth Haynes sent me this Kickstarter in 2015.

My Kickstarter is 127 mm. long, 127 mm. wide, 126 mm. high, and weighs 331 g.

The Kickstarter consists of two pieces of 4.7mm. stainless steel. Each is 127 mm. tall and wide, "T"-shaped, with a hook on each side. One has a central slot with an oval enlargement near the base, the other has a notch at the top and an oval opening at the base. The two fit together to form a four-claw grappling hook.

There are no identifying marks on this device, but the mill markings indicate that it is made from 316L stainless steel.

Warning:
Don't trust your life to a grappling hook.

This hook was a Kickstarter project by BellinghamMakerSpace.org that started in September and completed in December 2015. They developed a small and a medium size hook. This is the medium one. They also made titanium versions.

I have several grappling hooks made from flat steel pieces that can be assembled into a multi-claw hook. This one is one of the best. Assembly is easy, and the assembled hook is securely held together by whatever one connects to the eye. Unfortunately, the eye is not large enough for a standard carabiner.

I also like the weight of this hook - it is a fairly comfortable weight for throwing.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
