I acquired this EOD Gear Grappling Hook from EOD Gear in 2024.
My EOD Gear Grappling Hook is 124 mm. tall, 132 mm. wide, 132 mm. high, and weighs 223 g. When folded, it is 124 mm. tall, 74 mm. wide, and 14 mm. thick,
This grappling hook has four 2.9 mm. thick claws. One is welded to a central shaft, while the others are welded to rings that rotate on the shaft. Each movable claw has two associated rings When rotated open, a spring on the bottom of the shaft pushes the moving claws upwards. Notches and tabs on these rings are located to lock the corresponding claw into position when open. The lower end of the shaft is welded to a ring to provide a 16 mm. attachment eye. All parts are made from a magnetic stainless steel.
The front of one claw is laser engaged with an unknown symbol consisting of two slashed semicircles, "NOT FOR CLIMBING," and "Detonation Technology."
Warning: Don't trust your life to a grappling hook. |
This is a solid, well-made grappling hook. The opening mechanism is clever and works quite well. The hook folds flat for carry, but quickly opens for use. When open, the claws lock into place. The strong spring makes inadvertent closure unlikely. With a little practice, you can close it in about a second.
Note that this version is labeled "NOT FOR CLIMBING.:

This hook is the largest of the three. Its three claws are 4.5 mm. thick compared to 2.9 mm. for the others. The skeletonized claws to save weight. There are no warnings on this hook. While we cannot assume that it is safe for climbing (grappling hooks never are), it is “ready for the abuse Special Operations personnel are known for.”
