Technical Details

I acquired my Jusick from James Jusick in 2015.

My Jusick is 112 mm. long, 113 mm. wide, 105 mm. high, and weighs 142 g.

This grappling hook is made from three pieces of 2.6 mm steel. Two of these are 106 mm. long with a single claw to one side, making them 58 mm. wide. The two have beveled edges so they are enantiomorphs, not identical. The third is 80 mm. tall and 105 mm. wide. A slot and a notch in this piece allows inserting the other two to make a four-claw hook. The "carabiner" supplied with the hook holds the pieces together.

The grappling hook came with a pouch, parachute cord, and a Chinese "carabiner."

There are no identifying marks on the hook pieces, but the "carabiner" supplied with the kit was stamped "5/16 CHINA."

Warning:
Don't trust your life to a grappling hook.

James wrote,

This grappling hook is precision cnc cut and finished in black nitride for extreme corrosion resistance, Hook is made to store flat and be assembled easily with gloved hands. The grappling hook is made from 1018 steel and is accompanied by a 750 pound workload steel carabiner, 100’ of milspec para cord, and is enclosed in a 1000 denier pouch. The pouch is designed to be attached to your molle gear.

This is a nicely made grappling hook, and it comes in a nice kit. I like it, but I think that it is a bit light for trusting my life - one strand of parachute cord doesn't leave much safety margin.

Although the two single claw pieces are enantiomorphs, they shouldn't be. A look at the assembled hook shows that one of the two has the bevel on the outside, the other on the inside next to the first. I also found that the single-claw pieces only fit in from one side of the dual-claw piece. The only reason that I can see for this is if the bevels are not intentional, but result from water-jet (or similar) cutting. One could fix this problem with a file, but that would remove the nitride coating in places. I like this grappling hook, but it would not be my first choice if I needed something quickly in purely hypothetical nefarious circumstances.
