Front Rear

Technical Details

I acquired one Version A from Inner Mountain Outfitters in 1990 and a second from Chris Christensen in 2022.

The New Alp Multifreins is milled from aluminum alloy and hard anodized. It is 86 mm. long, 60 mm. wide, 11 mm. high, and weighs 60 g. It has a 40.5 mm. suboctagonal rope hole and a 28.5 by 16 mm. subrectangular slot eye.

One side is stamped "NEW ALP."

Comments

Although it is also called a "Light 8," this is not a figure 8 and should not be used in the same manner. My Light 8s came without instructions, but it is clear that it is similar to the Yates Belay Slave, and can be used in a similar manner. See the Yates Belay Slave illustrations for details.

The Multifreins was introduced in 1985. Here are an ad and instructions from the 1986 Snell Sports catalog:

Comments

Forging marks are clearly visible on the rear and to a lesser extent on the front. The finish is two-tone "bird dropping" soft anodizing

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
