I acquired my Version A from Mike Adams in 2003.
Version A is 89 mm. tall, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. thick, and weighs 60 g. It is milled from aluminum alloy plate and clear anodized. The rope hole is 39 mm. high and 28.5 mm. wide, while the eye is 28.3 mm. wide, 14.3 mm. high, and slightly curved.
One side is stamped with "YATES" and "SLAVE."
Version A is unfinished and the markings are different; but functionally it is the same as Version B.

I acquired my Yates Belay Slave, Version B from Ragged Mountain Equipment in 1994.
Version B is 89 mm. tall, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. thick, and weighs 58 g. It is milled from aluminum alloy plate and hard anodized. The rope hole is 39 mm. high and 28.5 mm. wide, while the eye is 28.3 mm. wide, 14.3 mm. high, and slightly curved.
One side is stamped with "YATES," "BELAY," and "SLAVE."
The Yates belay slave is a simple device that can be used in several different configurations. The instructions recommended three configurations for belaying and two for rappelling, as shown in the following figure:

I acquired my Yates Belay Slave, Version C from B. Bean in 2022.
Version D is a belay plate. It is milled from aluminum alloy plat. Mine is 99 mm. tall, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. thick, and weighs 66 g. The rope hole is 46 mm. high and 28.7 mm. wide, while the eye is 28.6 mm. wide, 14.3 mm. high, and slightly curved.
One side is stamped with "YATES," "BELAY," and "SLAVE."
Version C is 9 mm. taller than the smaller versions, which means that it will provide slightly less friction in certain applications. More important, it will allow using larger ropes, pleasing the "bigger-is-better" crowd who seem to be the primary users of the Belay Slave. The Belay Slave is not a bad device, but it never caught on like belay tubes did, and I have rarely seen one in use.

I acquired my Yates Belay Slave, Version D from NOCO Gear in 2021.
Version D is a belay plate. It is milled from aluminum alloy plate and hard anodized. Mine is 98 mm. tall, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. thick, and weighs 67 g. The rope hole is 46 mm. high and 28.7 mm. wide, while the eye is 28.6 mm. wide, 14.3 mm. high, and slightly curved.
One side is stamped with "YATES," "BELAY," and "SLAVE."
Version D is another large version. This one is hard anodized, and so it will resist wear better than the other versions.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
