Overview

What happened to Model A? I ordered three eights from Perfeclan, which were arbitrarily listed as Models A, B, and C on eBay. The package was damaged in shipping and Model A was lost. I was able to get a replacement from another vendor. That one is my Chinese Model A. Now you know the rest of the story.

Technical Details

I acquired my YQ Model B on eBay from Joe Wang, Chinatera Ltd. in 2018.

The YQ Model B is forged from stainless steel. Mine is 153 mm. tall, 119 mm. wide, and 11 mm. thick. The rope hole is 65 mm. high and 52 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 11 mm. The shaft length and width are 44 mm. and 30 mm., respectively. The auxiliary hole is 22.9 mm. high and 7.8 mm. wide. The eye measures 23 mm. by 24 mm. The top and bottom ears are 25.4 and 32.1 mm. long. My YQ Model B weighs 436 g.

Both sides of the shaft are stamped with the letters "Y" and "Q."

Comments

The YQ Model B falls into my miscellaneous figure eights with ears category. Two ears on an eight are bad enough, but four? At least these are reasonably placed, making tie-offs rather easy, should one ever need to tie off on an eight rappel.

The YQ Model B is too heavy for my taste.

Technical Details

I acquired my YQ Model C on eBay from Joe Wang, Chinatera Ltd. in 2018.

The YQ Model C is forged from stainless steel. Mine is 170 mm. tall, 156 mm. wide, and 11 mm. thick. The rope hole is 85 mm. high and 67 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 11 mm. The shaft length and width are 35 mm. and 36 mm., respectively. The auxiliary hole is 15.4 mm. high and 13.3 mm. wide. The eye measures 29 mm. by 31 mm. The ears are 17.6 and 18 mm. long. My YQ Model C weighs 440 g.

Both sides of the shaft are stamped with the letters "Y" and "Q."

Comments

The YQ Model C is another double T–side eight. Except for the markings, it is identical to the Perfeclan.

Like almost all steel eights, the YQ Model C is too heavy for my taste.
