Technical Details

I acquired my PMI Steel Rescue 8 from On Rope 1 in 2006.

The PMI Steel Rescue 8 is milled from steel plate and then chrome plated. Mine is 170 mm. tall, 158 mm. wide, and 13 mm. thick. The rope hole is 76 mm. high and 76 mm. wide. The top center thickness is 13 mm. The shaft length and width are 23 mm. and 46 mm., respectively. The eye measures 47 mm. by 32 mm. The ears are 26.7 mm. long. My PMI Steel Rescue 8 weighs 663 g.

The front side of this eight is marked has the PMI logo and "PMI" stamped into it. The rear is stamped with "MEETS NFPA 1983 (2001ED)," "MBS 22 kN," "G" and the Underwriters Laboratory logo with "CLASSIFIED" above.

Comments

The PMI Steel Rescue 8 is a typical example of - obviously - a milled steel rescue eight. Like the others, the PMI has the ears in the wrong place, sticking out to the side. Instead of an auxiliary hole, the PMI has a large pear-shaped eye. This helps reduce the weight somewhat, but the eight is still far to heavy for my taste. The edge radii are only about 1.5 mm., so the eight has a blocky look and feel.
