Technical Details

I acquired my Wild Country Brakeman, Version A from Tom Smith in 2021.

Version B is forged from aluminum alloy. Mine is 46 mm. long, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. high, and weighs 35 g. It has two slots that are 28 and 31 mm. long for 9 and 11 mm. rope, respectively.

One side is stamped with "WILD COUNTRY," BRAKEMAN," and "BRITAIN."

Comments

The Wild Country Brakeman is a normal forged aluminum "Sticht" belay plate. It resembles the Outside and Salewa plates.

I acquired my Wild Country Brakeman, Version B from Ragged Mountain Equipment in 1994.

Version B is forged from aluminum alloy. Mine is 46 mm. long, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. high, and weighs 35 g. It has two slots that are 28 and 31 mm. long for 9 and 11 mm. rope, respectively.

One side is stamped with "WILD COUNTRY," BRAKEMAN," and "BRITAIN." The other side is stamped "317."

Comments

Version B adds what appears to be a manufacturing lot marking (the "317") on one side.

I acquired my Wild Country Wired Brakeman from Exkursion in 1994. I acquired anotherr from Arthur W. McCarthy in 2020.

The Wired Brakeman is forged from aluminum alloy. A 3.2 mm. steel cable enters a hole in one side, where it is crimped in place. The cable is covered with heat shrink tubing. My Wired Brakeman is 46 mm. long, 51 mm. wide, 10 mm. high, and weighs 48 g. It has two slots that are 28 and 31 mm. long for 9 and 11 mm. rope, respectively.

One side is stamped with "WILD COUNTRY," BRAKEMAN," and "BRITAIN." The other side is stamped "318."

Comments

The Wired Brakeman adds a moderately stiff cable keeper.
