Technical Details

I acquired my Singing Rock Rama from Absolute Snow in 2020.

The Singing Rock Rama is 20 mm. long, 111 mm. wide, 68 mm. high, and weighs 82 g. The body is made from two 3 mm. aluminum alloy stampings held together by three shoulder rivets, two of which act as wear surfaces for the rope. An injection-moulded handle is inserted between the plates at one end. The rope opening is 34 mm. long and 14 mm. wide. The top of the Omega oval carabiner that I use for comparing belay tubes sits 5 mm. below the ends of the slots.

The front is printed with a hand-holding-a-rope icon at the handle end and a climber icon at the other, "Ø 8.7-11 mm," a book-with-an-"i" icon, "singing rock," "074K00430119," and "RAMA." the other side is printed with a hand-holding-a-rope icon at the handle end and a climber icon at the other, "RAMA", "singing rock," and "EN15151-2."

Comments

The Rama is designed for single ropes only. Although this saves weight, it does not compensate for losing the ability to do double-rope rappels.

Most of the braking occurs at the rivets (acting as bollards), but the rope also runs over the plastic grip. I do not like this: The grip will wear down, at least until the third rivet slows the wear. The Black Diamond ATC-Pilot is a similar device that runs the rope over a stainless steel surface. While both devices are too specialized for my taste, I prefer the more durable ATC-Pilot.
