I acquired my Black Diamond ATC-Pilot from backcountry.com in 2017.
The Black Diamond ATC-Pilot is 78 mm. long, 95 mm. wide, 24 mm. high, and weighs 92 g. The body is cast stainless steel and the retaining loop is black plastic. The slot is 36 mm. long and 15 mm. wide. The top of the Omega oval carabiner that I use for comparing belay tubes sits 15 mm. below the ends of the slots.
Each side of the casting is printed with a hand-holding-a-rope icon and a climber icon. One side of the plastic is printed with the Black Diamond logo. The other side has "ATC-PILOT," "Ø 8.7-10.5," a book-with-an-"i" icon, "7251," and "EN15151-2" molded into it.
The ATC-Pilot is designed for single ropes only. Although this saves weight, it does not compensate for losing the ability to do double-rope rappels.
The ATC-Pilot has thick walls and considerable depth, which helps it stay cooler than it would have been if designed for minimum weight. The device is large, making it easy to handle. The trailing rope runs over a large-radius U-channel. The resulting friction is lower than what I prefer.
The ATC-Pilot handles well, but is too specialized for my taste. I would rather carry something that has the capability to do double-rope rappels, and I prefer the additional grip provided by the Trango Jaws and its equivalents.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
