Buttonhole
(a.k.a. Asola)

ButtonholeFranz Bachmann’s Buttonhole knot is an early 1960s variation of the Bachmann Ring Knot, which is itself a semi-mechanical version of the Hedden Knot. I think the original Hedden was better, since the bulky figure eight loop interferes with the knot’s operation.

The Simple Buttonhole is a related knot tied with a single strand.

Note:
The performance of any ascending knot depends on the diameter, material, construction, and condition of both the main line and the ascender knot sling material. It may also depend on exactly how one ties the knot. Your knot’s performance can easily differ from mine.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
