Technical Details

Andrew Tupalski, the designer of the X-Rack, donated one to this collection in 2006.

The X-rack is a five-bar U-frame rack. The frame is 248 mm tall, and bent from 6.4 mm. stainless steel rod to create a 25 mm. internal separation.53 mm. bend inward and cross with the left side passing in front of the right. The frame ends terminate in 12.5 mm. balls soldered to the frame. The bars are 41.5 mm. long and made from 19.2 mm. diameter b y 0.9 mm. wall stainless steel. The second and fourth bars are notched so that the can pivot on the frame.

Comments

One uses the X-rack like a normal U-frame rack. Lock off by looping the tail end of the rope over the top and between the X-shaped frame extensions. The X-rack provided a more secure lock-off than most U-frame racks, since the crossed legs helps keep the rope in place. One can make an even more effective lock-off by passing a bight between the lower bar and the seat maillon, then looping this bight between the crossed bars. In either case, releasing the rope from between the crossed legs is fairly easy.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
