Technical Details

I acquired my Phoenix CRT from Ivan Hernandez in 2021.

My Phoenix CRT is 215 mm. tall, 108 mm. wide, 12 mm. thick, and weighs 277 g. It is milled from aluminum alloy plate and then soft anodized. The elliptical eye is 20.0 mm. high and 28.5 mm. wide. The large rope hole is 48 mm. in diameter. The two slots are each 52 mm. long and 14.0 mm. wide. The small round holes are 21 mm. in diameter.

One side of the CRT is printed with "PHOENIX CRT," a stylized Phoenix CRT in flames icon, and "36KN."

Comments

The CRT is "huge," but at least not to the extent that the Radeberger Haken are. While the bigger-is-better crowd may like this, those who know me know that I prefer simple, single-purpose devices. I don't even need (or like) ears on my eights. As a device that combines features from eights, sticht plates, horns, rigging plates, and a few other devices, the all-around Totem CRT really doesn't fit my needs or preferences, and as an incremental-friction device, it is too large for my taste. Once again, though, this is a canyoneering rescue and rigging tool, not a caving or climbing descender, and so my opinion really doesn't matter. If you like the idea but want something smaller, look at the LRT. The Phoenix CRT is essentially identical to the older Canyons & Crags Totem CRT.

Technical Details

I acquired my Phoenix LRT from CanyonZone.com - Gertjan van Pelt in 2021.

My Phoenix LRT is 190 mm. tall, 97 mm. wide, 10 mm. thick, and weighs 183 g. It is milled from aluminum alloy plate and then soft anodized. The elliptical eye is 17.9 mm. high and 25.4 mm. wide. The large rope hole is 43 mm. in diameter. The two slots are each 38 mm. long and 12.9 mm. wide. The small round holes are 17.7 mm. in diameter.

One side of the Totem is printed with "PHOENIX LRT," a stylized Phoenix LRT in flames icon, and "30KN."

Comments

The Phoenix LRT is a scaled-down version of the CRT. Those who know me know that I prefer simple, single-purpose devices. I don't even need (or like) ears on my eights. As a device that combines features from eights, sticht plates, horns, rigging plates, and a few other devices, the all-around Phoenix LRT really doesn't fit my needs or preferences, and as an incremental-friction device, it is too large for my taste. Once again, though, this is a canyoneering rescue and rigging tool, not a caving or climbing descender, and so my opinion really doesn't matter.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
