Technical Details

I acquired this CTOMS Quickie™ from CTOMS in 2023.

My CTOMS Quickie™ is 122 mm. tall, 42 mm. wide, 29 mm. thick, and weighs 97 g.

The Quickie™ consists of a pivoting lever with an attached braking block between two 3.2 mm. stamped aluminum plates. The front plate can pivot open for rigging. Each plate has a 15.6 mm. attachment eye. The braking block is a 25 mm. long, 12.5 mm high, 12 mm. thick stainless steel block with a shallow U-shaped rope groove on its underside. The handel has a soft plastic covering that appears to be heat-shrunk in place.

The front is printed with "EXPERT USE ONLY," "17789206," a book-with-an-"i" icon, 15kN, and "MADE IN CANADA." The rear is printed with "QUICKIE DESCENDER" and the CTOMS logo. the handle is printed with "Kg," a rigging illustration, and "MUST GRIP ROPE."

Comments

The Quickie™ is designed to be "the worlds smallest and lightest micro rope system." It is only available as part of a complete kit that also contains their TRACE™ Systems rope, a 5 mm., nylon core, technora sheath, kernmantle rope.

Rigging the Quickie™ involves putting a full wrap around the braking block. The block's small size and stainless steel construction gives it limited capability for absorbing heat, and it tends to get quite hot in use. This is one reason for requiring use of a technora rope.

Since the Quickie™ requires special rope, I find it best suited only for special situations. It is not sized to be compatible with the most common caving, climbing, or rescue ropes.
