I acquired my Mittelmann Sicherheitstechnik Secur-Quick MRG/9 from Harry I Sebree in 2021.

My Mittelmann Sicherheitstechnik Secur-Quick MRG/9 is 167 mm. tall, 93 mm. wide, 78 mm. thick, and weighs 1167 g.

The MRG/9 is an inertia reel descender intended for industrial self-rescue use. It came as part of a kit along with 80 m. of 9 mm. rope with snap hooks spliced at each end, 2 m. of a different 9 mm. rope with eye splices at each end to use as a sling, a Climax locking carabiner, a carrying bag, and an instruction manual. The 80 m. rope is pre-rigged into the descender, an cannot be removed without disassembling the descender, something the user should not do. The top of the descender has a snap hook attached by a clevis.

The front has "MRG" cast in raised letters. The identification sticker is printed with "Mittelmann," "Sicherheitstechnik," "GmbH+Co. KG 42489 Wülfrath," "Tipo del aparat0," "Secur-Quick MRG/9" inside a rectangle, "Clase de aparato," "A" inside a rectangle, "EN341," "CE 0158" inside a rectangle, "velocidad de descenso," "ca. 0,8 m/s" inside a rectangle, "No de construccion," "A- 05229 / 08" inside a rectangle, "carga de descenso maxima," "150 kg" inside a rectangle, "altura de descenso maxima," and "80 m" inside a rectangle. The rear has the following printed instructions:

4. Cinturón de salvamento EN 1497 o cinturón de interceptor EN 361. Enganchar gancho de carabina en orejilla.
5. Descender: la velocidad se regula automáticamente. No engrasar o aceitar.
Atención: Observar imprescindiblemente las instrucciones para el uso separadas MRG/9

Instructions for use

2. Hang the apparatus safely and as far as possible above the person descending, at an anchor point according to EN 795. Minimum permissible stop point load 10 kN.
3. Hang the rope free of interlacing [railings], do not let it slide over sharp edges, keep it taut.
4. Hang the EN 1497 life-saving belt or EN 361 interceptor belt. Attach the hook to the lug.

Comments

My Mittelmann Sicherheitstechnik Secur-Quick MRG/9 is a nice kit and it works rather well for its intended purpose, but I don't see it as a viable alternative for cavers and climbers. The descender is heavy, it is out of reach during descent, the rope is permanently fixed to the device, and a traveling rope is just asking for troubles such as snags and dislodged debris. Let’s let this one stay where it was intended.

I acquired my Mittelmann Sicherheitstechnik RG11 Easy+ descender & rescue device from Hector Avellaneda in 2021.

My Mittelmann Sicherheitstechnik RG11 Easy+ descender & rescue device is 250 mm. tall, 163 mm. wide, 194 mm. thick, and weighs 3399 g.

The RG11 Easy+ is an inertia reel descender and lifting device intended for industrial self-rescue use.

The front has two cast eyes that combined with the hooks give the impression of a moustached face. The rear of the upper housing has a sticker with "While abseiling 2 persons at the same time the rope may not be guided through the open eyebolt" and a book-with-an-"i" icon. The rear of the handwheel has as small central sticker with "Ab" below a curved counter-clockwise arrow and "Auf" below a closed clockwise arrow. The main sticker on the rear of the handwheel is printed with Mittelmann," "Sicherheitstechnik," "Abseilgerät/Descender Device", "RG11 easy+," "EN 341:2011/1A," "EN 1496:2017/B," "Abseilgeschwindigkeit / Descent velocity: 0,7 m/s," "Fabr.-Nr. / Serial number: S09 09233/18M," "Baujahr / Year of manufacture: 12.2018," "Abseillast / Descent load: min. 50kh / max. 280 kg," "Abseilhöhe / Descent height: Max 300 m," "Hublhöhe / Lifting height: max. 30m," "Kernmantelseil / Sheathed core rope: Ø 9 mm / Ø10.5 mm," "Anzahl Abseilvorgänge / Number descent: 10 x 300 m max. 280 kg," "Hublast (Rettung) / Lifting Capacity (rescue: max 200 kg," "Temperaturbereich / Temperature range: -40 °C - +60 °C,", "CE0158," and a book-with-an-"i" icon.

Comments

My RG11 Easy+ came with the device only and I am missing the lifting ratchet, but a standard 1/2-inch drive ratchet fits perfectly. Like the MRG/9, the RG11 works rather well for its intended purpose, but I don't see it as a viable alternative for cavers and climbers. The descender is heavy, it is out of reach during descent, the rope is permanently fixed to the device, and a traveling rope is just asking for troubles such as snags and dislodged debris. Let’s let this one stay where it was intended.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
