Technical Details

I acquired my TDPUSA Model FLR-5 from Kent Luttrell in 2013.

The TDPUSA Model FLR-5 is 298 mm. tall, 81 mm. wide, 25 mm. thick, and weighs 705 g. It is machined from 7075 aluminum and anodized black. It has five slots forming six bars. Two milled 6061 aluminum safety gates attach by plastic-head 5/16-18 UNC thumb screws fitted into threaded holes in the end of the second and fifth bars. One gate covers three slots and the other two. There is a 23.8 mm. diameter eye at each end.

There are no markings on this device.

Comments

This is a rugged descender, and it would take a great deal of caving to wear one out. The second eye allows one to spread the wear evenly between the two ends. The number of bars in use can be changed on rappel. The openings are wide enough for two 11 mm. ropes.

Although this descender strongly resembles the Single Rope Technique Equipment Goldtails, it was made in the USA.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
