These Eigher brake bars fit the old standard-size aluminum oval and D carabiners as well as 1¾ inch racks.

• The two left-hand bars are typical plain-finished solid aluminum brake bars. I have several versions with differing lengths, end shapes, and markings, but the are all functionally equivalent.


• The third bar is hard anodized. It will wear better than the others and give a smoother, slightly faster descent until the anodizing wears through.


• The right-hand bar is made from 3 m. wall thickness aluminum tube. It is also hard anodized. Once the anodizing wears through, the bar will need to be replaced immediately. If allowed to wear through, resulting sharp-edged hole will be rope-unfriendly. The sharp edge will normally bend inwards, but one should never depend on this.
