Bob Handley made a few of these in 1991 and sold them at B&C Wunderwear.

This is a heavy beast made from stainless steel. It fits standard 1¾ inch racks but is too large to fit standard carabiners.

Stainless steel has one-tenth the thermal conductivity of aluminum, so it tends to run hot. Most stainless steel brake bars are made from tubing to double the area for transferring heat to the air. This brake bar has hollowed-out ends, but the center section under the rope is not. This bar runs hot.

On the positive side, the solid center construction allows for a nice rope-centering groove, and there is no concern about it wearing through.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
