Technical Details

Kevin M. Mai ZhongJie helped me acquire this carabiner from I Climb in 2023.

My I Climb #212–3LS is 74 mm. long, 123 mm. wide, 27 mm. high, and weighs 130 g.

This carabiner contains a pulley sheave mounted in a specially-shaped locking key gate carabiner. The sheave is 24 mm. wide and 23.5 mm. in diameter. The 15 mm. wide rope groove reduces the running diameter to 13.9 mm.

The front spine is printed with "iclimb®," "kN ↔20↕8↺5" (where "↺" represents an open carabiner icon), and "Made in Taiwan." The rear spine is printed with CE0598," "EN362 / EN12275," and a book-with-an-"i" icon.

Comments

I don't normally carry pulleys caving, but when I do, I prefer pulleys with larger-diameter sheaves because they don't force such a sharp bend in the rope. This is less important for flexible climbing ropes than it is for stiff caving ropes like PMI Pit Rope.

Although I don't have much need for pulley carabiners, I prefer a locking screwgate like this one over a nonlocker or an autolocker.

Kevin M. Mai ZhongJie helped me acquire this carabiner from I Climb in 2023.

My I Climb#212–SLS is 75 mm. long, 123 mm. wide, 26 mm. high, and weighs 138 g.

Comments

I prefer a locking screwgate over an autolocker. There is no standard for autolocker mechanisms, and so the user cannot rely on muscle memory to open one unless they and everyone of their friends limit their lockers to a single style. The I Climb autolocker gates open by pressing the collar upwards against a fairly strong spring, and then turning it to the left. The collar will remain in the raised, rotated position until the gate is closed. As with any autolocker, mud, dirt, or foreign objects may prevent proper autolocking, and so the user should never rely on this working properly.

Kevin M. Mai ZhongJie helped me acquire this carabiner from I Climb in 2023.

My I Climb #213–3LS is 73 mm. long, 160 mm. wide, 32 mm. high, and weighs 187 g.

This carabiner contains a pulley sheave mounted in a specially-shaped locking key gate carabiner. The sheave is 24 mm. wide and 23.5 mm. in diameter. The 15 mm. wide rope groove reduces the running diameter to 13.9 mm. There is a 15.9 mm. 90° eye at the base of the carabiner, below the pulley.

The front spine is printed with "kN ↔25↕8↺7" where "↺" represents an open carabiner icon. The rear spine is printed with "CE," "EN362 / EN12275," and a book-with-an-"i" icon. The base is printed with "iclimb®" and "Made in Taiwan" on both front and rear. The gated side has a load diagram around the sheave axle with one up-pointing arrow and "WLL 5kN" above and a semicircular arc with down-pointing arrowheads and "2.5" beneath each arrowhead.

Comments

This is a much larger and heavier carabiner than the 212–3LS or 212–5LS.

Kevin M. Mai ZhongJie helped me acquire this carabiner from I Climb in 2023.

My I Climb #323–2L is 70 mm. long, 196 mm. wide, 31 mm. high, and weighs 244 g.

This carabiner contains a pulley sheave mounted in a specially-shaped locking key gate carabiner. The sheave is 24 mm. wide and 23.5 mm. in diameter. The 15 mm. wide rope groove reduces the running diameter to 13.9 mm. There is a 34 mm. wide, 24 mm. high swivel eye attached to the base of the carabiner with a large-diameter pinned screw.

The front spine is printed with "iclimb®," "Made in Taiwan," and "kN ↔30↕8↺8" (where "↺" represents an open carabiner icon). The rear spine is printed with "EN362 / EN12275," "CE0120," and a book-with-an-"i" icon. The gated side has a load diagram around the sheave axle with one up-pointing arrow and "WLL 5kN" above and a semicircular arc with down-pointing arrowheads and "2.5" beneath each arrowhead.

Comments

This is a larger and more complex carabiner than the preceding ones. I can't justify the extra size and weight, and I personally don't need the swivel eye.

The autolocking mechanism on this carabiner is different than the one used on the 212–3LS, 212–5LS, and 324–3L. Having different style locking mechanisms in one's kit is a nuisance, since a single muscle memory will not work with different designs. For this reason alone, I would not choose the 323–2L if I were using any of the others..

Kevin M. Mai ZhongJie helped me acquire this carabiner from I Climb in 2023.

My I Climb #324–3L is 80 mm. long, 204 mm. wide, 31 mm. high, and weighs 271 g.

This carabiner contains a pulley sheave mounted in a specially-shaped locking key gate carabiner. The sheave is 24 mm. wide and 23.5 mm. in diameter. The 15 mm. wide rope groove reduces the running diameter to 13.9 mm. There is a swivel attached to the base of the carabiner with a large-diameter pinned screw. The swivel has a 31 mm. tall, 18 mm. wide D-shaped central eye and two 15.6 mm. circular lateral eyes.

The front spine is printed with "iclimb®," "Made in Taiwan," and "kN ↔30↕8↺8" (where "↺" represents an open carabiner icon). The rear spine is printed with "EN362 / EN12275," "CE0120," and a book-with-an-"i" icon. The gated side has a load diagram around the sheave axle with a semicircular arc with up-pointing arrowheads and "2.5" above each arrowhead and one down-pointing arrow with "WLL 5kN" below .

Comments

This is a larger and more complex carabiner than the preceding ones. I can't justify the extra size and weight, and I personally don't need the swivel eye.

The autolocking mechanism on this carabiner operates the same way as the one on the 212–3LS and 212–5LS but not the 324–3L. Having different style locking mechanisms in one's kit is a nuisance, since a single muscle memory will not work with different designs. For this reason alone, I would not recommend mixing 323–2L and 324–3L models.
