Technical Details

I acquired my Kong Frog from Hank's Surplus / Amazon,com in 2021.

My Kong Frog is 51 mm. long, 88 mm. wide, 15 mm. high, and weighs 50 g. The front and rear plates are stamped from 2.3 mm. aluminum. They are held together by two 2 mm. stainless steel shoulder rivets at the top, one in the middle, and two 3.85 mm. stamped aluminum side plates at the base. Two spring-loaded hooks stamped from 3.4 mm. aluminum pivot on the central rivet. The side plates are held together with an 8 mm. semitubular rivet that passes through an eye sewn in an 18.5 mm. webbing sling. The sling is 115 mm. long with a 48 mm. eye sewn at its base.

The front is printed with the Kong logo, "▲" over "▼," "kN 23", "PATENTED," "Made in Italy," the UIAA logo, "CE0426," a book-with-an-"i" icon, "EN 12275:13/A," "EN 362:04/A/T," "203178," "1020 0503," and "EAC TP TC 019/2011." The rear is printed with "704 000," a large Kong logo, and "FROG." The webbing sling has a tag printed with the Kong logo, "ITALY", "MADE IN ITALY," :CE 0426," the UIAA logo, a book-with-an-"i" icon, "200071," and "2356."

Comments

The Kong Frog is designed for the so-called "sport climbing" community. I don't practice the "sport" of placing so many bolts that all risk disappears and all nearby compasses point to my route, but I appreciate that rock vandalism can create enjoyable climbs for the terrified safety snowflake crowd. The Frog allows one to clip a quickdraw to a bolt hanger without having to carry a quickdraw with a carabiner at the top because, well, that would be too heavy.

Technical Details

I acquired my Kong FrOG/C from Amazon.com in 2021.

My Kong FrOG/C is 66 mm. long, 87 mm. wide, 25 mm. high, and weighs 79 g. The front and rear plates are stamped from 2.3 mm. aluminum. They are held together by two 2 mm. stainless steel shoulder rivets at the top and one in the middle. Two spring-loaded hooks stamped from 3.4 mm. aluminum pivot on the central rivet. There is an 11.4 mm. attachment hole in the base of the side plates.

The front is printed with a book-with-an-"i" icon, "EN 362:04/A/T," "EN 12275:13/A," the UIAA logo, "Made in Italy," the Kong logo, "ITALY", "210065 0589," a factory icon, "05/2021," "CE0068," "▲," "25 kN," "5620 lb," "▼," "FrOG/C," and 700.0XG."

Comments

I fail to see the advantage of the FrOG/C over the Frog. The eye is too small to attach a standard carabiner, even if that were a good practice (it's not), and so the user must tie their own slings to the FrOG/C. Given that Frog costs less than the FrOG/C, I would choose the Frog with its sewn factor slings.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
