I acquired this Petzl Maestro S from On Rope 1 in 2022.
My Maestro is 137 mm. long, 203 mm. wide, 75 mm. high, and weighs 1103 g.
The Maestro consists of a ratcheting pulley mounted on a pivoting lever-controlled assembly, all inside an aluminum and plastic body.
The sheave is 77 mm. in diameter and 17 mm. wide with a 14 mm. wide, 13 mm. deep groove. The groove is not turned, but consistes of eight flat-bottomed flat-sided sectors. A ratchet mechanism restricts the sheave to rotating counterr-clockwise as viewed from the front. The sheave is mounted on a rotating stamped carrier. The carrier rotation is controlled by a lpastic handle mounted behind the fixed plate. The carrierincludes a stamped braking block that pins the rope against a cast stainless steel notched anvil mountedd on the left side of the rear plate.
The body consistes of a 4.2 mm. aluminum fixed plate, a swinging 2.9 mm. aluminum front plate, and a plastic guard that covers the top half of the rope path. The previously-mentioned anvil is mounted on the left side of the fixed plate, and a 12-mm diameter pin with a shallow side groove is mounted on the right side. The front plate is notched to clear a groved extension on the pullet axle. The front plate has a cast stainless steel brake block mounted to its front with two torx cap screws. The top eye passes through both plates. It is 32 mm. wide and 25 mm. high. The lower eye is through the fixed plate only, and is 24 mm. wide and 19 mm. high. The plates also have three ventillation slots.
The front plate is stamped with a book-with-an-"i" icon, "MAESTRO," and a rigging illustration. The spine of the plastic guide is printed with the Petzl logo. The rear of the fixed is printed with "MAESTRO S," "22H0425067550," "Pat.Pend.," "EAC", "TP/TC 019/2011," "UKCA," "Petzl," "FR-38920 Crolles," "Cidex 106A,""CE0082," "EN12841:2006/C," "ROPE • 10,5≤Ø≤11.5," "Max 200kg," "EN341 : 2011/2A - 200m - T>-30°C," "Petzl Parallel 10,5 - 30/150kg," "Petzl Duraline 10,5 - 30/180kg," "Petzl Axis 11mm - 30/180kg," a scanner code, "MeetsNFPA 1983(2017 ED.)," "Descent Control, Belay Device (1)," "Pulley, MBS : 22kN (T)," "Ø:10,5-11,5mm," the UL "CLASSIFIED" logo, "45YF," and "Becket 11kN (T)." The handle is molded with LOKC" underneath an arc with three tic marks and "DESCENT" underneath an arc with 11 tic marks.
The Petzl Maestro S is a massive device designed for the "bigger is better" crowd. While its weight and bulk make impractical for normal caving or climbing use, it works reasonable well for its design application. The flat surfaces on the sheave groove help ensure that it rotates while hauling, and help provide for a sloother feel while lowering.
Since I no longer interfere with natural selection, I'll leave detailed evaluation to those who do so.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
