Technical Details

I acquired my MSA Dyna-Glide 506277 from James Earles in 2021.

My MSA Dyna-Glide 506277 is 100 mm. long, 125 mm. wide, 61 mm. high, and weighs 738 g.

The Dyna-Glide consists of a milled aluminum extrusion body, a spring-loaded cast stainless steel cam, eight guide rollers, and a number of minor pins. It is designed to run on a steel guide channel formed from heavy sheet steel punched and then bent to shape.

The body has a central cam slot, a flat rear face and a slot on each side. The cam rides in the central slot and extends to the front and rear. The rear extension is subtriangular, and engages notches in the guide rail. The front has an eye for attaching a lanyard. The top of the cam has an arm that presses against a coil spring inside the body. Lifting the eye against the force of the spring retracts the rear nose, allowing one to move the Dyna-Glide along the channel.

The sides of the body have slots that engage lips on the inside of the guide channel. There are four rollers in each slot that help reduce friction and wear between the guide rail and Dyna-Glide body. The rear rollers extend through to the flat rear face, but do not act against the guide rail.

The left side of the body is milled with an arrow and "THIS END UP." The top is stamped with the serial number "A158427." A sticker on the left side gas the MSA logo, "DYNA-GLIDE®," "Fall Arrester/Dispotivo para detención de caídos/Dispositif antichute," "Maximum coupling length for climbing and fall arrest: 6 inches (151 mm)," "Longitude máxima de acoplamiento para ascensos y detención de caídos: 151 mm. (6 pulg.)," "Longueur max. de la liaison, arrêt de chute et ascension: 151 mm. (6 po)," "P.O. BOX 426•PITTSBURGH, PA 15230 USA," "EI 608 REV 4," and "R621531." A sticker on the right side has "608 REV 6 R621570," "Minimum capacity of support structure:," "Capacidad mínima de estructura de apoyo:,"Capacité minimum de la charpente de support:, "{5,000 LBF (22kN)"DATE OF MANUFACTURE," "Fecha de Fabricacion," "Date de Fabrication:, a date block punched to indicate fabrication in November 2011, "Made in "U.S.A.," "Hecho en los E.E.U.U.,’ "Fabriquè aux E.-U.", model numbers with 506277 stamped, an up-pointing arrow, "UP," "ENCIMA," and "VERT LE HAUT."

Comments

This heavy device would be permanently mounted on the guide track where it is to be used. It needs to be slid onto the track from the end, where fittings would be added to prevent casual removal from the track.

Needless to say, this isn't a normal caving or climbing device, at least not with our current techniques!

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
