Technical Details

I received my Notch Quickie as a donation from Nick Bonner at Treestuff.com in 2019.

My Notch Quickie is 64 mm. long, 59 mm. wide, 22 mm. high, and weighs 126 g.

The Notch Quickie is a stainless steel clevis with a 9.7 mm. pin. The pin has two spring-loaded catches that are tapered to allow easy closure, but must be depressed to remove the pin.

The clevis is stamped with "NOTCH" on one side and two strength icons on the other, one showing lateral loading labeled "13kN" and the other showing longitudinal loading labeled "30kN."

Comments

The Notch Quickie is very well made. It was designed for arborists and I will let them comment on its uses in that environment. I don't see any immediate caving applications that cannot be addressed with more standard gear, but given caver ingenuity, that may change. I wonder if cave mud would jam the latches open, but I haven't had a chance to test the quickie in heavy cave mud.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
