Technical Details

Ondřej Belica of Climbing CZ sro sent me this Rock Empire Self-blocking Pulley in 2022.

My Rock Empire Self-blocking Pulley is 190 mm. tall, 74 mm. wide, 40 mm. thick, and weighs 391 g.

The Rock Empire is a small pulley with an eccentric cam mounted on a suspended frame. The pulley side plates are made from 3.0 mm. aluminum sheet. They are bent inward at the top in a dog-leg until they nearly meet at the 28 mm. wide, 22 mm. high clip-in hole. The side plates can turn on the axle to open for rigging. The sheave is turned from aluminum alloy and anodized black. It is 15 mm. thick and 60 mm. in diameter, with a semicircular rope groove with an inner diameter of 52 mm.

The cam is a skeletonized casting covered with black paint. The cam radius increases from 31 to 51 mm. over an angle of 48°, giving a 31° cam angle. The cam has number of small conical teeth, all of which have their axes sloping slightly downward with respect to the cam face. The tooth pattern is (3)(4.H)^2(3.H)^2(3.2.2) where an "H" represents a mud relief hole. A spring-loaded manual safety bar is mounted on the top of the inverted cam. The normal action of the spring holds the safety against the cam. When the cam is opened, the shell interferes with the safety bar, thus preventing opening the cam. If the safety bar is moved away from the cam (opposing the spring), it will clear the shell and the cam will open. At full open the safety can be released and the spring will hold the safety against the back of the shell. This provides a means of locking the cam open. A bent tab on the safety bar assists in operating the safety mechanism.

The front plate is printed with "ROCK EMPIRE®," MAX Ø13 mm," "CE1019," "EN12278," a strength rating illustration for pulley use (12.5 kN per side, 25 kN total), "002," "N007/17," and a book-with-an-"i" icon.

Comments

The Rock Empire Self-blocking Pulley is derived from the Rock Exotica Wall Hauler and/or Petzl Wall Hauler, but it is heavier and features a more robust cam. It is nearly identical to the Xinda, with differences in the shape of the eyes and the cam safety tab. I would trust the Rock Empire for heavier loads than the Wall Haulers, but not human loads.

Warning:
The XINDA should never be used to support human loads.
