I acquired my Vento (Венто) from Artyom Babin (Артём Бабин) in 2019.
My Vento is 79 mm. long, 188 mm. wide, 39 mm. high, and weighs 403 g.
The Vento is a small pulley with an eccentric cam mounted on a suspended frame. The pulley side plates are made from 3.0 mm. aluminum sheet. They are bent inward at the top in a dog-leg until they nearly meet at the 18 mm. clip-in hole. The side plates can turn on the axle to open for rigging. The sheave is turned from aluminum alloy and anodized black. It is 14.6 mm. thick and 56 mm. in diameter, with a semicircular rope groove with an inner diameter of 52 mm.
The cam is a skeletonized casting covered with black paint. The cam radius increases from 31 to 51 mm. over an angle of 48°, giving a 31° cam angle. The cam has number of small conical teeth, all of which have their axes sloping slightly downward with respect to the cam face. The tooth pattern is (3)(4.H)^2(3.H)^2(3.2.2) where an "H" represents a mud relief hole. A spring-loaded manual safety bar is mounted on the top of the inverted cam. The normal action of the spring holds the safety against the cam. When the cam is opened, the shell interferes with the safety bar, thus preventing opening the cam. If the safety bar is moved away from the cam (opposing the spring), it will clear the shell and the cam will open. At full open the safety can be released and the spring will hold the safety against the back of the shell. This provides a means of locking the cam open. A bent tab on the safety bar assists in operating the safety mechanism.
The rear of the cam shell is printed with "VENTO," "0519" (date of manufacture), "25 kN (Ha OCb), "BEPEBKA:," and "Ø 8 - 13mm."
The spring-loaded steel cam is essentially the same as the cam on the SUT eccentric cam ascender, but the cam safety is different.
The Vento is derived from the Rock Exotica Wall Hauler and/or Petzl Wall Hauler, but it is heavier and features a more robust cam. It is nearly identical to the Xinda, with the only significant difference being the shape of the cutouts in the shell. I would trust the Vento for heavier loads than the others, but not human loads.
Warning: The VENTO should never be used to support human loads. |

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
