Technical Details

I acquired my Buckingham Length Adjusting Device (a.k.a. LAD, Buck Grab) from WesSpur Tree Equipment in 2010.

The Buck Grab is 74 mm. tall, 55 mm. wide, 51 mm. thick, and weighs 178 g. The body and cam are milled from aluminum alloy and then hard anodized. The cam axle is a bolt secured with a lock nut and a split ring through a hole in the end of the bolt. A short length of cable between the body and cam acts as a weak cam closing spring.

One side is printed with an arrow labeled "POLE" and "UP, an illustration of the cam, and the Buckingham logo. The other side is printed with "Buckingham" and "USE ON 1/2" (12.7 mm) NON METALIC ROPE ONLY." The spine is printed "NOT FOR USE ON VERTICAL LIFELINE WITHOUT ENERGY ABSORBER."

Comments

Although marketed as a flipline adjustor, the Buck Grab could also serve as a small ascender with a twisted eye. In this capacity, the bolt and nut would slow rigging. The twisted eye would facilitate some non-standard rigging as well.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
