Ondřej Belica of Climbing CZ sro sent me this Jiří Janáček device in 2023.
The Jiří Janáček is a notched square tuber. It is made from aluminum alloy and painted red. Mine is 49 mm. long, 45 mm. wide, 39 mm. high, and weighs 86 g.
There are no markings on this device.
This is a copy of the Simond Cubik. The teeth help increase friction beyond that available from standard tubers. If you don't need the extra friction, then turn the device over and the teeth are out of the way.
Jiří Janáček made this belayer sometime in the 1990s. He worked in a Czech factory that made parts for high-speed trains and airplanes. Here Jiří made some climbing devices for himself and his friends by milling from blocks of aerospace duralumin. His devices included belay tubes, hexes, and chocks made in small numbers. He also sewed harnesses from fire hoses.
Once commercially-produced climbing devices became available, he took his "home-made" devices out of service and replaced them with commercially-produced ones.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
