Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber from Ragged Mountain Equipment in 1994.

The Lowe Tuber is a round tuber. It is turned from aluminum alloy and then anodized. Mine is 50 mm. long, 50 mm. wide, 38 mm. high, and weighs 49 g. The keeper is made from cord run through the center hole in the dividing tube.

My Lowe Tuber is marked "LOWE FRANCE."

Comments

Version A uses a cord keeper, which tends to get in the way more than a cable keeper does.

Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber, Version B used on eBay from Tim Spencer in 2008.

The Lowe Tuber is a round tuber. It is turned from aluminum alloy and then anodized. Including the cable, mine is 80 mm. long, 50 mm. wide, 72 mm. high, and weighs 58 g. The keeper is made from plastic covered cable held in place by crimps in the dividing tube.

Version B is also marked "LOWE FRANCE."

Comments

The Lowe Tuber is similar to the Latok, but this one is anodized. The dimensions are slightly different, but they perform about the same.

Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber, Version C from Susan Faerber in 2012.

Version C is a round tuber. It is turned from aluminum alloy and then anodized. Including the cable, mine is 73 mm. long, 49 mm. wide, 76 mm. high, and weighs 50 g. The keeper is made from plastic covered cable held in place by crimps in the dividing tube.

Version C is also marked "LOWE FRANCE," but on the top instead of the side.

Comments

Versions B and C are functionally equivalent.

Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber II, Version A from Ragged Mountain Equipment in 1994.

The Lowe Tuber II is a round tuber. It is turned from aluminum alloy and then anodized. Mine is 55 mm. long, 55 mm. wide, 38 mm. high, and weighs 61 g. The keeper is made from cord run through the center hole in the dividing tube.

This Lowe Tuber II is marked "LOWE FRANCE."

Comments

The Tuber II is a slightly larger version of the Tuber.

Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber II used on eBay in 2009.

The Lowe Tuber II is a round tuber. It is turned from aluminum alloy and then anodized. Including the cable, mine is 65 mm. long, 55 mm. wide, 38 mm. high, and weighs 63 g. The keeper is made from plastic-covered cable run through the center hole in the dividing tube. Two crimps in the tube hold the cable in place. Including the plastic cover, the cable’s diameter is 3.9 mm.

This Lowe Tuber II is marked "LOWE FRANCE."

Comments

The cable keeper on Version B does not tend to get tangled in the rope, making it superior to the cord used on Version A.

Technical Details

I acquired one Lowe Tuber II, Version C from Kevin Cooper in 2010 and a second from Deziree Wilson in 2011, both on eBay.

The Lowe Tuber II, Version C is a round tuber. It is turned from aluminum alloy, milled to create a 25.4 mm. lightening hole on each side, and then anodized. Mine is 55 mm. long, 55 mm. wide, 37 mm. high, and weighs 48 g.

There are no markings on my Version C tubers.

Comments

The lightening hole reduces the weight of the tuber by 15 g. This seems like a good idea, but it also greatly reduces the surface area, so this version tends to run hot.

Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber II, Version D from Yinetyme (a.k.a. Nocogear) in 2017.

The Lowe Tuber II, Version D is a round tuber. Mine is 55 mm. long, 67 mm. wide, 38 mm. high, and weighs 68 g. It is turned from aluminum alloy and painted. The keeper is plastic-covered cable.

This tuber has "LOWE FRANCE" painted in white letters.

Comments

The paint is only on the outside, not on the inside where the rope runs. I prefer the anodized tubers for purely aesthetic reasons.

Technical Details

I acquired my Lowe Tuber II, Version E from Eric Kohl in 2018.

The Lowe Tuber II, Version E is a round tuber. Mine is 55 mm. long, 55 mm. wide, 37 mm. high, and weighs 59 g. It is turned from aluminum alloy and painted. The central rod is hollow so that the user can add their own cord keeper.

This tuber has "LOWE FRANCE" painted in white letters.

Comments

The paint is only on the outside, not on the inside where the rope runs. I prefer the anodized tubers for purely aesthetic reasons.

Some people may prefer to add their own keepers. Factory keepers can wear out or break, but a user-supplied keeper is easily replaced.

Technical Details

I acquired two Lowe square tubers used on eBay in 2009, one from Rose Gonos and the other from Duane Frerichs .

The Lowe square tuber is machined from aluminum alloy. Including the cable, mine is 55 mm. long, 52 mm. wide, 113 mm. high, and weighs 61 g. The keeper is made from plastic-covered cable with an overall diameter of 4.2 mm. The cable enters two holes in the bottom of the aluminum divider tube, and brass end plugs in the tube secure it. Two brass bushings fit in machined recesses in the side of the tuber, allowing the cable to pivot freely

My Lowe Square Tuber is stamped "LOWE."

Comments

The Lowe square tuber is essentially identical to the Trango Pyramid, Version B. This one deserves a star as well: Star
