Technical Details

Artyom Babin (Артём Бабин) sent me this Bukashka (Букашка) in 2022.

The Bukashka-3 appears to be made of three pieces of titanium welded together. Mine is 85 mm. long, 66 mm. wide, 44 mm. tall, and weighs 117 g. It has two slots of different sizes. The smaller slot is 26 mm. long and 10.6 mm. wide, while the larger is 31 mm. by 13.5 mm. The eye is 17 mm. in diameter and surrounded by a 32 mm. long, 29 mm. diameter spool with its center reduced to 26 mm. in diameter. Notches at the bottom of the spool allow this Bukashka to be used with standard carabiners.

There are no markings on this Bukashka.

Comments

"Букашка" can be translated as "bug." Boris Kashevnik was a prolific inventor who developed quite a few devices that he called "bugs" or "insects." There are no markings on this Bukashka and I have not been able to find this exact version in the literature. I do not know whether it is Boris' or a copy.

Technical Details

I have two Bukashka-3s. I acquired the first one from John Weinel in 1990 and the second one from Robert Allen Steed in 2006.

The Bukashka-3 appears to be made of two pieces of aluminum (or titanium?) welded together. Mine is 112 mm. long, 60 mm. wide, 50 mm. tall, and weighs 81. It has two slots, each 35 mm. long and 14 mm. wide. The eye is 12.9 mm. in diameter, and the hole above the eye is 17 mm. tall and 12.9 mm. wide.

There is a stamped logo consisting of a script "Ж" inside a circle on the front of Bukashka-3.

Comments

The functional aspects of the Bukashka-3 are similar to the Forrest Triton. The tab at the top appears to be nothing more than a cool place to grip an overheated device. The lower carabiner hole is too small for some of my carabiners.

Boris Kashevnik formed Spasnarezhenie LLC (Спасснаряжение) in 1995. Although this Bukashka-3 predates the formal creation of his company, we think it likely that he produced this one and that the logo is his.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
