Technical Details

I acquired my Kong-Bonaiti Jolly from Inner Mountain Outfitters in 1994.

The Kong-Bonaiti Jolly is forged from steel and plated. It has two slots, one 45.2 × 12.9 mm. and subrectangular, the other 42.8 × 13.9 mm. and subtrapezoidal. The Jolly has a 90° bend with the axis along the central rib. My Jolly is 39 mm. long, 60 mm. wide, 18 mm. high, and weighs 57 g.

The concave side of the central rib is stamped "KONG-BANAITI-ITALY." One end of that side is stamped "JOLLY."

Comments

The Jolly is designed to act as a shock absorber for climbers roped together as a team, as is common on snow and ice. The design allows it to be connected anywhere on the rope. In an emergency, it can also be used as a descender. The smaller slot is for 9 mm rope, and the larger is for 111 mm.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
