Martin Sluka sent me these Bogibbs in late 2023.He made these in the 1980s.

The Sluka Bogibbs is 91 mm. tall, 63 mm. wide, 24 mm. thick, and weighs 102 g.

These Bogibbs have titanium alloy shells. These were made by cavers from Kladno, a town about 17 kilometers northwest of Prague. The rope channel is 13 mm. wide.

Martin made the cams out of aluminum alloy. The cam radius increases from 22 to 35 mm. over an angle of 30°, giving a 41° cam angle. There are four rounded teeth on each cam.

Comments

Martin sent these to me with his original webbing attached. The white webbing is particularly interesting. In an email from 2012, Martin mentioned that Czech cavers had only one accessible source of webbing in the 1980s, namely the brake parachute straps from Sukhoi Su-7 fighter-bombers, and so that is what he used.

Martin Sluka sent me this chest Bogibbs in late 2023.He made it in the 1980s.

This chest Bogibbs is 101 mm. tall, 74 mm. wide, 29 mm. thick, and weighs 140 g.

This Bogibbs has a titanium alloy shell, also made by cavers from Kladno. The rope channel is 13 mm. wide.

Martin made the cams out of aluminum alloy. The cam radius increases from 28 to 37 mm. over an angle of 18°, giving a 41° cam angle. There are three rounded teeth on the cam. The cam has a threaded screw knob that acts to limit how far the cam can swing.

Comments

The cutout on the side of the chest Bogibbs is larger than on the standard Bogibbs. This makes it easier to place the Bogibbs on or off rope, but also make accidentally coming off rope more likely. To address this, the knob on the cam can be turned to limit the cam motion, helping to prevent opening and rope release while climbing.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
