Technical Details

I acquired my Yundxi from Bloomyshop on Amazon.com in 2019.

The Yundxi is 85 mm. tall, 77 mm. wide, 62 mm. thick, and weighs 177 g.

The frame and cam are milled from aluminum. The rope channel is 14 mm. wide. The frame’s rope channel is square rather than U-shaped, and the cam face is not contoured either. Neither of these aspects hurts the ascenders performance to any significant degree. The top and bottom of the rope channel are rounded off so that the rope does not bend over any sharp corners.

The cam radius increases from 10 to 26 mm. over an angle of 156°, giving a 20° cam angle. The cam has eight grooves in the face giving seven distinct teeth, and a thumb tab by the eye. The cam rides on a quick-release pin. The pin is attached to the frame by a small stainless steel cable, and a second cable serves as a cam keeper.

One side is printed with "CE 1019," "EN358," "EN353-2," a cam icon, "ø11MM-13MM," "POLE," "↑," and "UP." The other side is printed with "ZWY008." The cam has " ⇧" etched on one side.

Comments

The Yundxi is a well-made Chinese ascender. It was listed as a "Rope Grab Ascender" on Amazon.

The thumb tab copies the idea used on the Gibbs/ASR and Progressive Rescue Solutions ascenders. It is well rounded, lacking the sharp corner of the one on the Progressive Rescue Solutions ascenders. While the tab may be beneficial in rescue situations, I do not like it when using the Yundxi as an ascender as it is unnecessary and is also just one more thing that can dig into my body.
