Front Open for Rigging
Front Open for Rigging

Technical Details

I acquired three of these from David Jones in 2014.

This ascender is 103 mm. tall, 58 mm. wide, 63 mm. thick, and weighs 160 g.

The ascender is 77 mm. tall, 55 mm. wide, 40 mm. thick, and weighs 157 g. The shell is 1/8 in. (3.2 mm.) aluminum bent to form a U-shaped channel. The cam is milled from aluminum and has nine notches forming ten rounded teeth. The eye is chamfered, as is the entry for the QR axle. The axle a 3/16 in. (4.7 mm.) QR pin.

There are no markings on this ascender, but the QR pin is stamped "CARR LANE" and "MS17985C310."

Comments

David described these as "Three machine shop made look alike Gibbs ascenders with three quick release pins. (These ascenders were made by a machinist for me when I worked in the aerospace industry 1971 -73.)"

The QR pin has a rather small diameter, and the T-handle on the pin makes it a bit bulky. These are just minor quibbles, this was nicely done for a noncommercial ascender.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
