I acquired this ascender at the International Congress of Speleology in 1980, but wasn't fast enough to get the other one of the pair.
The Kantyú is 88 mm. tall, 52 mm. wide, 30 mm. thick, and weighs 106 g.
The frame and cam are both made of anodized aluminum. The one side of the shell is cut away to allow rigging. The cam has 6 Z-shaped teeth.
There are no markings on the Kantyú.
The Kantyú is a Hungarian ascender that is similar to the Bogibbs. The Kantyú be rigged and derigged more easily than most lever-cam ascenders.
There were at least two versions of the Kantyú. Mine is designed for use as a chest ascender. Unlike my Gibbs modification, the concern here seemed to favor ease of rigging over security, almost to the opposite extreme. The foot version, which I do not have, has less area cut away and should be harder to rig but more secure.
The cam are very sharp, and I would dull them before use.
Márk Krkos sent me the following note in 2014, and included a picture showing both versions:
In my rope technique legacy I found the full Bogibbs set. The original Hungarian name is "Kantyú" which is used recently in the Hungarian language for all of the ankle type ascenders. In the picture you see the original webbing kit: for chest, ankle and knee rigging.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
