I acquired this ascender from Artyom Babin (Артём Бабин) in 2025. It was made in Zaporizhzhia in the 1980s.
I acquired this Zaporizhzhian from Artyom Babin (Артём Бабин) in ***2025***. The Zaporizhzhian is 129 mm. tall, 88 mm. wide, 24 mm. thick, and weighs 131 g. The rope channel is 1 mm. wide. The cam radius increases from 26 to 28 mm. over an angle of 20°, giving a 12° cam angle. The tooth pattern is (F)^4.
This ascender is 1129 mm. tall, 88 mm. wide, 24 mm. thick, and weighs 131 g The body is an aluminum casting with a central rope slot on the front, an eye on the lower left, and two cutouts on the rear. The rope insertion slot is 14.7 mm. wide and the rope channel is 11 mm wide.
On the top right is spring-loaded steel lever with a four-toothed cam face on the left. The cam teeth are flat-topped trapezoids formed by three triangular horizontal cuts..
There are no markings on this ascender.
I have no instructions for using this ascender. Its operation as a simple hand ascender is obvious, but the purpose of the two slots on the rear is less clear. Perhaps they are merely there to lighten the ascender, but that would not explain the shape of the upper bent slot nor the additional rounding of the top of the lower open slot. I cannot help but think of the devices resemblance to the Arborist Cinch. The latter can be used for ascending and descending. I can see ways that this Zaporizhzhian ascender can do the same, but without instructions, I cannot be sure of the original design intent.

Hundreds of cell phone users complained and asked me to for a simpler, mobile friendly site. In particular, they wanted me to limit each page to a small number of pictures and minimize my use of text. This new site provides what they asked for.
